You can listen to this sermon at http://generationschurchofgranbury.sermon.net/main/main/2223356

Today I will not be doing a gay bashing sermon nor delivering some sort of homophobic diatribe.
What I do hope to do is to speak the truth in love - about sin - from the pages of the New Testament.

It is my hope to encourage those persons - of both genders - who are aware that they are called for more than the status quo.  May you be
empowered to fully function in your God-given ministries.
  •      As we begin to read our Bibles more seriously for ourselves, there are a couple passages of Scripture about women that we need to study more thorougly than normal, lest some of us fall back into legalism and others into contempt for the New Testament.
Before attempting to address this important question, let me say right from the start that I believe and totally agree with 2 TIM. 3:16 which reads, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,….” while also wholeheartedly agreeing with 2 PETER 1:20-21 which reads, “…..no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.”

  • Another New Testament passage that we should all keep in our hearts when approaching the Holy Bible and learning from its inspired contents is found in 2 TIMOTHY 2:15 which says “Be diligent (or study) to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

With this instruction in mind let us dive in and look the root issue of the women in ministry debate, "Can women speak in church?"
Here is a verse that is often misunderstood.

Dedicated to potential husbands - preparing to honor future in-laws
by asking for permission to marry their daughter.

You have asked for the hand of the girl on my arm
This gift from God's hands, once held in our arms
Entrusted to us by His love

This ultimate question is your request
For matrimonial blessing in giving our best
Entrusted to us by the Lord

We don't take this lightly and we feel honored highly
That you would ask for our daughter
As parents who care and after much prayer
In seeking the heart of the Father
Our answer is "We do and we will"
If you do and she wills, to walk down the aisle together

Will you lay down your life for our daughter, your wife?
Entrusted to you and no other?
If your answer is "Yes" then our answer is "Yes"
From the hearts of her father and mother

"It is not good that man be alone"
        Says God our Heavenly Father
"To leave and to cleave is to become one"
Said Adam our first earthly father
"To have and to hold, your only wed one"
Said to you by this mother and father

May you both become one through faith in God's Son
Entrusted to us by His love
